Can I choose some of the books myself?

We do our best to accommodate requests for specific titles, authors or genres. However, if you would prefer to come in and select your own books, we cannot guarantee that the books you choose will fall in the “by the foot” price range. When we choose books for you, we choose them within a certain price range to keep your book costs low. For example, many new releases and rare books are more expensive and, therefore, are not normally books we select for “by the foot” orders.

We are happy to help you select books within a budget it you decide to come in and shop.

Are appointments necessary?

Appointments are not necessary, but they are recommended if you would like to guarantee our availability to discuss your project or pull your books.

How long does it take to create a custom collection?

We can put together most custom collections within 24 hours. Orders of 75 feet or more may require a longer lead time.

May I view the collection before I buy it?

Yes, you may view the books before purchase. We can provide pictures and/or a title list for your review for most orders. Title lists are not available for some items, such as clearance items and antique leather.

May I return some of the books I purchased through Books-by-the-Foot and exchange them for other titles?

Yes, books may be returned or exchanged within 2 weeks of purchase except in cases of final sale and clearance items. Books may be subject to a restock fee, depending on the size of the return/exchange.

Does BBTF focus more on the look of a collection or the content?

This depends entirely on you. We can work with you to select books you love or would love to read, or we can pull books based on a specific aesthetic. The more input you provide us, the better we are able to tailor the collection to your desires.

Is there a restriction on how many feet I can order through Books by the Foot?

No, there is no minimum or maximum on the number of feet you may order. However, certain categories may be limited by availability.

How do I place an order?

Orders may be placed by phone or email. Due to the variation of quantities available and the necessity of confirming requirements for projects (such as height or depth restriction on shelving units), all orders must be confirmed and processed by one of our Strand associates. How does BBTF work?

Once you let us know what kind of project you are working on and a quote is agreed upon, we begin to pull your books from our sales floor. BBTF is not a discount program nor is there a fee for our services. We simply assemble a personalized collection for you, selecting books in a certain price range. We help you get the content and aesthetic you want while keeping you within budget.

What are my shipping options?

You may arrange for a store pick-up or request a car delivery. Car delivery within Manhattan costs $50 and $75 to the outer boroughs. We can deliver to Long Island, NJ and CT, though prices vary. Car deliveries are only available Monday–Friday.

We ship via UPS ground for most other deliveries. We can use your own UPS or Fed Ex account, if requested. International shipping methods will vary, depending on the weight of the shipment and the distance. Please give us your shipping address when requesting a quote.

Which payment options do you accept?

The Strand accepts all major credit cards, checks, cash and purchase orders. For purchase orders, clients must create an account by completing this form with credit/trade references (all terms net 30). Credit card authorization form may be faxed with your payment information to 212-473-2591.

Do you offer a trade or bulk discount?

Since the books we sell are already extremely discounted, we do not offer any additional discounts.
