May I pick my own books?
Yes, the cost will be full price for the books up front and half back upon return. You may check out at the registers, but ask to speak to the Register Manager. You will need to return the books to the Register Manager in person to receive your half back refund.
What is your turnaround time?
Depending on rental size, we can put your rental together within 1–24 hours.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payment by check or cash You can pay by check or cash; however, we will not pull your order unless payment has been received.
Payment by purchase order You can pay by purchase order after we have created an account for you. Please complete our Billing Account Set-Up Form and either fax or email it to us along with your purchase order and credit references/bank info. Payment by credit card We accept all major credit cards. Please complete our Credit Card Authorization Form and either fax or email it back to us. Our fax number is 212-473-2591 and our email is bksbythefoot@strandbooks.com.

When may I place a “by-the-foot” rental order
Our offices are open Monday through Friday, 9:15am–6:15pm.
Can you deliver our rental?
You may arrange for a store pick-up or request a car delivery. Car delivery within Manhattan costs $50.00 and $75.00 to the outer boroughs. We can deliver to Long Island, NJ and CT, though prices vary. Car deliveries are only available Monday–Friday.
I no longer need our book rental. May I cancel my order for a refund?
Unfortunately, we are unable to refund you after your order has been filled.
I lost/damaged a book you loaned me. What now?
You will be responsible for the full cost of the lost/damaged book. In cases of a multi-volume set, the entire cost of the set will be due if any volume is lost/damaged.
We are a small, independent production. Do you offer discounts?
Due to the large demand for book rentals, we do not currently offer discounts for our rental services.
Can you customize the rental so the books are appropriate for my project?
Yes, this is our specialty. We can pull books for any kind of character, from virtually any time period. Ask us for some options.
My project is a period piece. Can I rent books from a certain time period?
Yes, we have a very large vintage inventory and can create a collection from almost any time period.
How long does my rental last?
Our rentals are for one week. You may extend your rental for 10% of your total rental cost for each additional week.
May I rent books in exchange for a Strand promotional mention?
Rentals for promotional exchange must be approved—please call 212.660.6643.
