A Summerstage Tribute to Sekou Sundiata

As a part of the seven-month, citywide retrospective “Blink Your Eyes: Sekou Sundiata Revisited,” and a prelude to the SummerStage performance, Sekou Sundiata Remixed, the Forewords series will be featuring a line up of poets and performance artists Curated by the Nuyorican Poets Café.

Come and listen to an evening of innovative and contemporary word-play in the spirit of Sekou Sundiata’s socially engaged and impassioned work! Authors will include Roger Bonair Agard, Bonafide Rojas and Mahogany L. Browne. Roger Bonair Agard is author of the collections Tarnish and Masquerade (2006) Gully (2010), and Bury My Clothes (2013). Bonafide Rojas is the author of Pelo Bueno: A Day In The Life of a Nuyorican Poet (2004), and When The City Sleeps (2012). Mahogany L. Browne is currently host and curator at the Nuyorican Poets Café and author of Swag (2010) and editor of His Rib: Stories, Poems & Essays by HER (2007), her journalism has appeared in magazines like Uptown, KING, XXL, The Source, The Word and MOBO.

Admission is $15 cash at the door of the event only, and includes entry to the Sekou Sundiata Remixed performance. This exclusive event is limited to 100 guests. Entrance for this event is best accessed through the 69th/72nd Street park entrances off Fifth Avenue, where you will be directed to the VIP ‘Guest and Press’ entrance.
