Caroline Stoessinger in Conversation with Eli Wallach
March 20: 7:00PM – 8:00PM
Strand Bookstore in partnership with The Norman Mailer Center hosts an evening with Caroline Stoessinger author of A Century of Wisdom: Lessons from the Life of Alice Herz-Sommer, The World’s Oldest Holocaust Survivor. Stoessinger will be interviewed by legendary actor Eli Wallach. Stoessinger’s book tells the story of 108 year old pianist, Alice Herz-Sommer, who lives in London and still practices the piano three times a day. Herz-Sommer is an eyewitness to an entire century. She grew up with some of Europe’s most influential figures like Kafka, Freud, and Mahler. She survived the Theresienstadt ghetto and attended the trial of Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem. Her house concerts were attended by Arthur Rubinstein, Leonard Bernstein and Isaac Stern. Join us to learn more about this astonishing woman.
To attend the event, you can purchase the featured book or a $10 Strand gift card at the door, or at the registers. All options admit one person. The event will be located in the Strand's 3rd floor Rare Book Room at our store at 828 Broadway at 12th Street.
