The Strand brings you an alluring evening of literature, romance, and history! Marie Duplessis’ glamorous and tragically short life in the demi-monde of 19th century Paris captivated her contemporaries and has inspired many works of art, from Alexander Dumas fils’ Camille to Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge. But the story of the real-life figure behind these myths has been virtually forgotten since her death a century and a half ago at the age of twenty-three. Now, acclaimed biographer Julie Kavanagh finally tells the story of the historical Duplessis. Kavanagh will talk with Liesl Schillinger, who recently translated Dumas’ masterpiece.
