The Poetry Brothel-- The Clue Edition

Thursday April 27: 7:00PM 11:00PM

The Poetry Brothel is a unique and immersive poetry event that takes poetry outside classrooms and lecture halls and places it in the lush interiors of a bordello.

Featured poets include Keegan Lester as Earnest Pettiway, Lucia Stacey as Penelope Strangelight, Alan Keegan as Finnegan Figleaf, Emi Berquist as Monah Mayhem, Allison Sylvia as Hypatia Rose Wonderland, Nicholas Oliver Moore as Commodore Benedict Bartlett, Jackie Braje as Pavlina Vera, and Rachel Boyadjis as Cosette Chapiteau.

Other performers include house band Sweet Megg & The Wayfarers, burlesque beauty Cassandra Estelle, contortionist Allison Schieler, illusionist Matthew Cooper, performance artist duo The Lost Boys, tarot reader Nota Bene, sketch artist Gregg Vance Emory, and your hosts, The Madame, Mister Charley, and Tennessee Pink.

Join us for a happy hour from 7pm-8pm, where your first drink is on us. The show will start at 8pm.

This event is presented in conjunction with National Poetry Month, the world's largest literary celebration, now in its 21st year.

The event will be located in the Strand's 3rd floor Rare Book Room. Guest entry at 826 Broadway at 12th Street.

The Poetry Brothel presents a rotating cast of poets, each operating within a carefully crafted character, who impart their work in public readings, spontaneous eruptions of poetry, and most distinctly, as purveyors of private poetry readings on beds, chaise lounges and in private rooms. For a small fee, all of the poets are available for these sequestered readings at any time during the event. Of course, any true brothel needs a good cover; The Poetry Brothel’s is an immersive cabaret, offering live music, burlesque, magic, vaudeville, and fortune-tellers, with newly integrated themes, performances and installations at each event.
