STEIDL X STRAND: Gerhard Steidl - Why Physical Things Matter in a Digital World w/ Peter Badge, and Marc Pachter
Monday November 27: 7:00PM – 8:00PM
Buy a copy of Nobel Heroes or a $25 gift card at the door or at the Strand's main floor registers to attend. Copies of Peter Badge's books will be available for purchase at the event. This event will take place in the Rare Book Room on the Strand's 3rd floor, accessible via the main store elevator or next door at 826 Broadway.
Gerhard Steidl returns to the Strand to kick off a week of events and signings with Steidl artists with a discussion on the continued importance of physical media in a world transformed by information technology. Steidl will be joined by photographer Peter Badge, whose book Nobel Heroes he's published, and Marc Pachter, former director of the National Portrait Gallery and the National Museum of American History.
Guests are invited to stay to get copies of Nobel Heros signed by Badge, and to enjoy a reception sponsored by Pernod/Rickard Do it the French Way.
In 2000 German photographer Peter Badge embarked on a long-term project to photograph every living Nobel Laureate. Commissioned by the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings in cooperation with the Smithsonian Institution, the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, and the Deutsches Museum, and cofunded by the Klaus Tschira Stiftung, this project has taken Badge across the globe to the laureates’ homes, labs, workplaces and even holiday destinations.
Join us in the Rare Book Room for a facinating discussion, followed by a signing to kick off Steidl week!
