Product Description

Relations were taut with the Plains Indian tribes by the time George Armstrong Custer headed an exploratory expedition into the Sioux’s Black Hills in 1874. When Custer announced his discovery of gold in the Sioux territory, it prompted the Black Hills gold rush, and eventually inflamed the Sioux to war. This is a beautiful first edition of Custer’s personal account of the time, published a year before the war broke out that would lead to the Battle of Little Bighorn and Custer's bloody last stand. 8vo. 1st edition. Minor fading to spine, with gilt slightly dull. Slight fading to margins of boards. Gentle bumping and fraying to corners and spine ends. Minor general wear to edges. VG.
