Stepping into the Strand’s Rare Book Room is like stepping into a literary salon of yesteryear; leather-bound classics line the walls from floor to ceiling and natural light inundates from all angles. A charming and airy loft-like space with original floors from 1901, the historic room is home to an array of one-of-a-kind treasures—from proofs and first editions, to signed and inscribed books and papers. One day you may find The World as I See It, inscribed by Einstein, and the next a Christie’s catalogue on Princess Diana’s dress collection, signed by Diana herself. The collection is ever-changing—in quantity, style and subject—in the spirit of the dynamic and diverse nature of the Strand.
We invite you to rent our rare book room, “either to please or to educate,” as Horace would suggest, or to explore the worldly issues of the day. Past events have run the gamut from wine tastings to political fundraisers, and even a burlesque night. The room is our oyster, and can be yours too.
The rare book room accommodates up to 200 people and the Strand is willing and able to supply audio and video equipment, tables and chairs, and support staff. While we do not cater events, we are open to outside caterers, upon approval. No request is too unusual. We will do our best to ensure the event runs seamlessly, tastefully, and with style.

The room is open daily, on the 3rd floor of the store, between 9:30-6:15. The cost of the room is $2,000 from 6:30pm-9:30pm no matter the day of the week (dependent upon availability) and includes podium, stage, chairs and the assistance of the events manager, who will make sure your evening goes smoothly.
