This is an excellent biography on President Harry S. Truman. David McCullough does a great job with telling the life story of bookish, hard working, and "average American" Harry Truman. What sets this biography apart from others is McCullough's ability to show the intimate, personal, and all too human side of Truman. Yes, you get the dates, facts, figures, and historical analysis of major events including WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the presidential campaign of '48, and much more. But you also get to see Truman doubting whether he could handle the job as president after Roosevelt died, doing his best to stand toe to toe with the likes of Churchill and Stalin at the Potsdam Conference. By the end of this book, I felt like I personally knew Truman. And he's definitely worth getting to know.
