Surrounded by rednecks, misfits, and counterculture burnouts, John Gibson -the reluctant heir of an alcoholic squirrel-sculpting grandmother -- and Sarah McKay - a commune-reared "hippie-by-association" - search for self and community in 1989 rural Mendocino County, California.
