Daphne

Justine Picardie brings us a novel that is an interesting blend of fiction and fact with "Daphne". This is the story of Daphne du Maurier who is restless in Menabilly, her remote mansion by the sea in Cornwall. She is haunted by her memories and her own creations, particularly Rebecca, the heroine of her most famous book. To distract herself, Daphne becomes fascinated with Branwell Bronte, the reprobate brother of his more famous sisters. Daphne decides to write his biography. In present-day London, a lonely young woman is struggling to finish her Ph.D. thesis on du Maurier and the Brontes. Retreating to the comforts of her personal library, the woman begins to unravel a fifty-year-old mystery.
