Desert

Author J.M.G. Le Clezio's Desert, the winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature, is an epic tale of two different people from two different continents and time periods, whose lives are inexorably entwined. In the desert in 1909, a young boy named Nour and his people, "the blue men," travel great distances in the burning climate to find the great spiritual leader known as Water of the Eyes. In contemporary Morocco, Lalla, a descendant of the blue men, leaves her oppressive husband and emigrates to France for a better life. Through it all, these two people, linked forever by their blood, devote everything they have to their ancestors & their hopes for the future.
