Reading has been proven to promote empathy, and Bustle believes that reading broadly is one small step in mending the divides of our nation. In 2017, join we'll read books by women of all different backgrounds, races, ethnicities, social classes, religions, and sexualities. Join Bustle Books Editor Cristina Arreola and author Ibi Zoboi for a conversation about the book club's March selection: American Street.

American Street is the story of Fabiola Toussaint, a Haitian teenager who leaves her home in search of une belle vie — the good life — in Detroit. But on the journey out of Port-au-Prince, her mother is detained by U.S. immigration, leaving Fabiola to navigate her new life — and find the "American Dream" — all on her own.

This event is free and open to the public, and will take place on the second floor in the store at 828 Broadway at 12th Street. Copies of American Street will be available at the event.
