Grace Bonney: In the Company of Women @ The New School

Join us to celebrate the launch of Grace Bonney’s newest book, In the Company of Women. Bonney founded Design*Sponge in 2004, and it was an immediate success. She has worked tirelessly since its inception to connect and support women running creative businesses. In this book, Bonney profiles over 100 of these influential and creative women from all ages, races, backgrounds, and industries. Chock-full of practical, inspirational advice for those looking to forge their own paths, these interviews detail the keys to success and dispense advice for the next generation of women entrepreneurs and makers.

Prepare for a fabulous evening as several experts discuss their unique perspectives as enterprising and ambitious women. Panelists include:

  • Jodie Patterson is a mother of five, an entrepreneur, and a distinctive voice in the beauty industry, having cofounded two companies: Doobop, and Georgia by Jodie Patterson. Her brands have been profiled in five issues of O Magazine, and appeared in almost every major mainstream publication, including the New York Times, Glamour and Vogue. She is an active LGBTQI ally who has been recognized by The Advocate, GLAAD and numerous other websites. Many years ago, Jodie was the Director of PR for the fashion designer Zac Posen and most surprisingly, an acrobat in the Big Apple Circus. She lives in Brooklyn, New York, where she and Joseph Ghartey raise their children with love, education and family solidarity.
  • Malene Barnett is an award-winning designer who creates bespoke carpets, fine art wall coverings and artisan tiles from her studio in Brooklyn, New York. An Alumni of the Tory Burch/Goldman Sachs 10K Small Business Program, Malene has been featured in both national and international publications, including Interior Design Magazine, House Beautiful and New York Magazine. Her company, a M/WBE certified business, has attracted the gaze of the luxury market including Saks Fifth Avenue, Chatsworth Building, The Astor - Luxury Residential, Revel Hotel, The Baystone Hotel in Mauritius, Duke University, Avalon and Arianna Huffington. Malene B is also a proud partner of Kravet and Goodweave.
  • Anna Bond  is co-owner and Creative Director and her illustrations and designs have molded Rifle Paper Co.’s unique aesthetic. Born and raised in Summit, New Jersey, Anna got her bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and made her way to Florida to work as an Art Director at a magazine. After a few years of magazine and freelance illustration work, she fell in love with stationery and began working toward developing a line of products. As Creative Director, Anna designs Rifle Paper Co.’s collection as well as oversees the creative direction of the brand including marketing, business strategy, and product development. She was also recently honored as an ADC Young Gun.
  • Tina Roth Eisenberg grew up in the mountains of Switzerland but moved to New York City to work as a graphic designer in 1999. She worked in various prominent design firms to then start her own design studio in 2006. With the birth of her second child in 2010 she decided to take a client sabbatical to focus on her various side projects. The hiatus has been extended indefinitely and Tina now runs four businesses out of DUMBO, Brooklyn. She runs a collaborative workspace called Studiomates, organizes a global, monthly lecture series called CreativeMornings, is the inventor of the to-do app TeuxDeux, and has changed the world of temporary tattoos with her latest project, Tattly. Tina is often referred to as Swissmiss after her popular design blog, which is also the name of her Twitter handle.
