Today, Americans own twice the amount of stuff they did 50 years ago and bill more out-of-office hours than any other advanced economy. We online date, binge-watch, thumb through social media, and often wander around exhausted and unsure. Raposo, a prolific journalist (Saveur, Food & Wine, Tasting Table, etc.) and radio host, took note of this cultural struggle and intimately embraced a life stripped down in The Me, Without. Throughout the course of a year, she progressively shed her most constant habits, alternately removing social media, sugar and alcohol consumption, waste, unnecessary spending, and more in the effort to measure this abstinence against her physical health, social interactions, and sense of self-worth. The results are moving and surprising.
In this panel, Jacqueline, Missy, Kat, and Julia will delve into the overarching theme of what has become a constant buzz word in recent years: self-care. They can explore self-care when things are going well and when they’re not, what self-care even means (as in, its definition far beyond the wellness category), how we determine what we need and what to do about it, why we don't act and why we do, etc.
