Reading Without Walls
Monday April 16: 7:00PM – 8:00PM
This event is free to attend with RSVP through the document HERE.
In partnership with Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group and The Mary Sue, we are pleased to bring you a READ WITHOUT WALLS Panel Discussion.
Join Editorial Assistant Princess Weekes of The Mary Sue as she moderates a playful and intimate panel discussion that celebrates diversity in literature. Hear from author Ilyasah Shabazz of Betty Before X and Mahogany L. Browne, author of Black Girl Magic as they share experiences and bring perspective while you stretch beyond your bounds of go-to literary figures and get exposed to a broader range of characters to enjoy.
About Reading Without Walls: Former National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Gene Luen Yang calls us all to READ WITHOUT WALLS, exploring books about characters who look or live differently than you, topics you haven’t discovered, or formats that you haven’t tried. READING WITHOUT WALLS promotes diversity and opens readers’ eyes to new ideas and experiences. In this divided time in our nation’s history, READING WITHOUT WALLS is an inclusive way to spread appreciation and understanding for others — and to learn new and exciting things.
Join us as these writers share their work and discuss the importance of reading a diverse selection of stories.
Reading Without Walls is happening now, and anyone can participate — teachers, librarians, book-sellers, and readers. Just find something new and different to read — and let books open up the world around you. What can YOU do to read without walls?
