Time, Desire, and Action: Ramayana and The Cosmic Game

Friday September 21: 7:00PM 8:00PM

Event Admission

The Epic Ramayana is a beautiful and heartbreaking tale of the adventures of Prince Rama and his beloved princess Sita. Considered the first poetic work in Sanskrit, its literary, philosophical and aesthetic brilliance inspired poets, artists, and readers for two thousand years and continues to do so even today. We invite you to join us for an introductory lecture on the Ramayana, accompanied by two young artists to create an immersive experience inspired by the myth.

During the Olio, Adluri will explore the epic’s manipulation of time, narration, desire and action to demonstrate the fragility and paramount importance to ethical action. A vocal performance of a traditional classical composition by Bandlamudi and a contemporary composition and performance by Clemente helps us appreciate the universality, beauty and versatility of the story of the hero Rama.

Vishwa Adluri teaches Philosophy and Religion at Hunter College NY. He specializes in Ancient Greek Philosophy, Ancient Indian Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, and Myth.
