Product Description

Set in Los Angeles in the early 1980s, this coolly mesmerizing novel is a raw, powerful portrait of a lost generation. They have experienced sex, drugs, and disaffection at too early an age, and lived in a world shaped by casual nihilism, passivity, and too much money, a world in which everyone drives Porches, dines at Spago, and snorts mountains of cocaine in a landscape of limitless privilege and absolute moral entropy, of dizzying desperation and relentless partying, deep in the heart of the seamy world of the L.A. after-noir. 208p.

Drugs, sex and lies all played to a swanky pop soundtrack that defines the 1980s, Less Than Zero encompasses all of these aforementioned themes while wearing Wayfarers and day glow prints that defined the era in question. Less Than Zero is a novel about a drug ridden society and how a young man tries to cope with the streets of LA after being on the East Coast in New Hampshire for the past four months. The story is told in flashbacks as well as snippets of story as the reader follows Clay through his four weeks at home. Divorce, homosexual relationships, gigolos, anorexia, coke, heroine, addictions to a multitude of things, obsessive drinking and lose of oneself parade themselves throughout this novel and leave the reader to turn introspectively on themselves and force them to look at the tribulations that they face in their everyday life. Less Than Zero is an intellectual read and one that requires a great deal of thought after the fact, a mother/father book so it would seem to the 90s book of this magnitude named Perks Of Being A Wallflower.
