Strand Notes
The SITE Sante Fe-sponsored project "Gary Simmons: Ghost House, May 19, 2001," was created in an old farmhouse on the picturesque Ruby Ranch, a private 25,000-acre working ranch in Las Vegas, New Mexico, whose grounds include a ghost town complete with dilapidated schoolhouse, commercial buildings, and a church. After securing the structural supports of the farmhouse and its walls, Simmons executed a compelling series of chalk and erasure drawings depicting ephemeral stars, birdcages, and chandeliers throughout the first floor's interior walls. Interspersed is imagery of the scene (Las Vegas, New Mexico) of Jack Johnson's "1912 White Hope" boxing match against Jim Flynn. Book lacking dust jacket.
