Illuminator

Set against the political turmoil, plague and religious tyranny of the fourteenth century, "The Illuminator" takes place in an age before the advent of the printing press, when "illuminators" were needed to paint, illustrate and adorn the expensive, hand-scripted books that were painstakingly hand-produced. A master illuminator, Finn, is hired by the church but is secretly working for John Wycliffe, a radical cleric who proclaims that the Bible should be transplanted into English so that all have access to it. But Finn soon becomes a reluctant player in a dangerous interplay between faith and politics.
