Sherrill Tippins & Dennis Dunaway of Alice Cooper
Tuesday December 3: 7:00PM – 8:00PM
For decades, the Chelsea Hotel was the center New York’s bohemian underground. It was home to writers, artists, musicians, and general eccentrics from Dylan Thomas to Bob Dylan Allen Ginsberg to Arthur Miller, and Janis Joplin to Dee Dee Ramone. Over the decades the Chelsea Hotel became the de facto base for generations of New York’s downtown bohemia. With Inside The Dream Palace Sherill Tippins, chronicler of New York’s artistic world with February House, now tells the story of the Chelsea Hotel and its storied occupants. It’s a particularly timely history as the Chelsea now stands on the edge of the critical new moment—after closing for renovations in 2011, questions remain as to whether the Chelsea will continue as a center for artists, or join the ranks of New York’s gentrification.
Sherill will be joined by Dennis Dunaway, founding member of rock band Alice Cooper. Join us in our cozy Rare Book Room to hear Sherill and Dennis chat about the life of this piece of historic New York!
