Natalie Prass, whose "timeless" (The New Yorker) 2015 self-titled album revisited and updated classing sounds and themes and was widely hailed as one of the best albums of the year, returns with The Future and the Past, a powerful and cohesive statement of celebration and defiance. Written and recorded after she scrapped a fully mixed and mastered album in the wake of the tumultuous 2016 election, Prass says, "I needed to make an album that was going to get me out of my funk, one that would hopefully lift other people out of theirs, too, because that's what music is all about."
For The Future and the Past, Natalie reunited with Matthew E. White, the polymath behind Richmond, VA's Spacebomb Studios, for a forward-thinking, groove-oriented record that triumphs over the shock that produced it. Join Natalie for a performance and conversation with Matthew in the Rare Book Room, co-presented with Talkhouse, just a few days before The Future and the Past hits the shelves!
