Beginning Algorithms A good understanding of algorithms, and the knowledge of when toapply them, is crucial to producing software that not only workscorrectly, but also performs efficiently. This is the only book toimpart all this essential information--from the basics ofalgorithms, data structures, and performance characteristics to thespecific algorithms used in development and programming tasks.Packed with detailed explanations and instructive examples, thebook begins by offering you some fundamental data structures andthen goes on to explain various sorting algorithms. You'll thenlearn efficient practices for storing and searching by way ofhashing, trees, sets, and maps. The authors also share tips onoptimization techniques and ways to avoid common performancepitfalls. In the end, you'll be prepared to build the algorithmsand data structures most commonly encountered in day-to-daysoftware development. What you will learn from this bookThe basics of algorithms, such as iteration and recursionElementary data structures such as lists, stacks, andqueuesBasic and advanced sorting algorithms including insertion sort, quicksort, and shell sortAdvanced data structures such as binary trees, ternary trees, and heapsAlgorithms for string searching, string matching, hashing, andcomputational geometryHow to use test-driven development techniques to ensure yourcode works as intendedHow to dramatically improve the performance of your code withhands-on techniques for profiling and optimizationWho this book is forThis book is for anyone who develops applications, or is justbeginning to do so, and is looking to understand algorithms anddata structures. An understanding of computer programming isbeneficial.Wrox Beginning guides are crafted to make learning programminglanguages and technologies easier than you think, providing astructured, tutorial format that will guide you through all thetechniques involved.

It is our pleasure to present these proceedings for "The Aerodynamics of Heavy Vehicles II: Trucks, Buses and Trains" International Conference held in Lake Tahoe, California, August 26-31, 2007 by Engineering Conferences International (ECI). Brought together were the world's leading scientists and engineers from industry, universities, and research laboratories, including truck and high-speed train manufacturers and operators. All were gathered to discuss computer simulation and experimental techniques to be applied for the design of the more efficient trucks, buses and high-speed trains required in future years. This was the second conference in the series. The focus of the first conference in 2002 was the interplay between computations and experiment in minimizing aerodynamic drag. The present proceedings, from the 2007 conference, address the development and application of advanced aerodynamic simulation and experimental methods for state-of-the-art analysis and design, as well as the development of new ideas and trends holding promise for the coming 10-year time span. Also included, are studies of heavy vehicle aerodynamic tractor and trailer add-on devices, studies of schemes to delay undesirable flow separation, and studies of underhood thermal management.

In this classic country noir, featuring a new introduction by Daniel Woodrell, a small town farmer takes a job at a roadhouse, where unbridled greed leads to a brutal murder Jack McDonald is barely a farmer. Boll weevils have devoured his cotton crop, his chickens have stopped laying eggs, and everything he owns is mortgaged—even his cow. He has no money, no prospects, and nothing to do but hang around filling stations, wondering where his next drink will come from. As far as hooch goes, there’s no place like Smut Milligan’s, where Breath of Spring moonshine sells for a dollar a pint. A bootlegger with an entrepreneurial spirit, Milligan has plans to open a roadhouse, and he asks Jack to run the till. The music will be hot, the liquor cheap, and the clientele rough. But the only thing stronger than Milligan’s hooch is his greed, and Jack is slowly drawn into the middle of Smut’s dalliances with a married woman, the machinations of corrupt town officials—and a savage act of murder.

James Ross is a creative & independent thinker in contemporary metaphysics & philsophy of mind. In this concise metaphysical essay, he argues clearly & analytically that meaning, truth, impossibility, natural necessity, & our intelligent perception of nature fit together into a distinctly realist account of thought & world. Ross articulates a moderate realism about repeatable natural structures & our abstractive ability to discern them that poses a challenge to many of the common assumptions & claims of contemporary analytic philosophy.
