In November of 1991 Robert Frank went to Beirut on a commission to photograph the city's devastated downtown in the aftermath of the Lebanese civil war (1975-1990). Much of the work he did there, together with that of five other photographers with whom he shared the assignment, was put together in 'Beirut City Centre' (2006). Alongside that work, he also made Polaroids of the city & its environs, which, on his return home, he set aside. Years later, Frank again worked with these images, using them to create a sketch-book's worth of collages, realizing this facsimile reprint of that notebook: a sewn softcover in a paper bag w/special 4-color matt inks & a Polaroid varnish. Illus., quadrotones. 44p.

This volume redresses the imbalance of critical attention paid to Robert Frank's work in cinema - an oeuvre as esteemed among cinephiles as his photography is elsewhere. Never content to walk the same path twice, he has approached each of his 27 films as a new experience, so that his films have proved difficult to categorize, especially in their amalgamation of documentary, fiction and autobiography. This volume presents essays by vartious authors examining each film and video in detail; and, an interview with Allen Ginsberg. Illustrated throughout. 304p.

Robert Frank's first feature-length film premiered at the the 1968 Venice Film Festival. Everything that had defined his art up to that point is packed into this film - the view of America as if from the outside, the placement of the mariginal in a central role, the poetic libertinage of the Beats. The story, which takes place during the showing of another film in a rundown movie theatre, weaves together opposites, i.e., playing the counterfeit against the authentic, pornography against poetry, monochrome against color. 'Me and My Brother' celebrates the poetic essay, affirming the underground and the assemblage form. This book/DVD set includes stills, dialogue, & the re-edited 85-minute film. 56p.

In August 1992 Robert Frank’s good friend Reginald Rankin invited Frank on a trip to Pangnirtung, a village of around 1,300 Inuit inhabitants in the Arctic Circle. This book is Frank’s documentation of the five-day sojourn. Curiously Frank depicts Pangnirtung void of its people: the still harbor, public housing, a convenience store, a telephone post. Sincere without being sentimental, the photographs are shaped by a short text from Frank himself, “Prefabricated homes along the main road in Pangnirtung. At times a decorated window – reflections inside or outside. Stones – maybe the balance of a big sky above…” Illus., 27 Quadrotone photographs. 40p

The publication of this volume marks the first time that the significant body of photographs which Robert Frank made in Paris in the 1950s has been brought together in a single book. This 1951 trip to France was only Frank's second return to Europe after he had settled in New York City in 1947, and some of the images he made during that visit have become iconic in the history of the medium. The 80 photographs reproduced here, which were selected by Frank and editor Ute Eskildsen, suggest that Frank's experience of the 'new world' had sharpened his eye for European urbanism. Illus., 80 tritone. 160p.

In 1950, Robert Frank left his job as a photographer in New York to travel through Europe with his family. That summer he arrived in Valencia, Spain, which was at the time a humble, bleak place enduring the austere conditions of the postwar period like the rest of the country. The pictures Frank took of Valencia depict the daily life of a fishing village. His portrayal is so natural and clear that further verbal explanation seems superfluous; they simply reflect, in the photo grapher's words, "the humanity of the moment". The photographs in this book, many of which have never been published before, allow dignity to override poverty.
