The Author’s Bookshelf: Janet Mock

Janet Mock is a writer, TV host, and advocate whose memoir Redefining Realness broke ground as the first biography written from the perspective of a trans girl. It debuted on the New York Times bestsellers list in 2014. Her second book Surpassing Certainty: What My Twenties Taught Me will be released on June 13. A native of Honolulu, Janet began her journalism career as an editor at People.com and has since become, as Oprah Winfrey said a “trailblazing leader” championing the rights of America’s marginalized. She gave a rousing speech at the Women's March on Washington; founded #GirlsLikeUs and #TransBookDrive; hosts the interview podcast Never Before with Lenny Letter; and helms the column “Beauty Beyond Binaries” for Allure, where she serves as a contributing editor.
