Mark Dion

Mark Dion is an American artist who investigates the visual representation of nature and the history fo the natural sciences. Based in New York City since 1982, Dion often works with scientists and non-art institutions in realizing his installation, sculpture, performance or film and video work. Contributors survey the artist's most significant works and his ongoing investigation into natural history's obsession with categorizing nature, converses with him about the interface between ecology and culture and the phenomenon of site-specific art; Dion selects a text by John Berger, as well as selections of his own provocative writings.
