Product Description

8vo. 8th printing, with type entirely re-set. Original blue-green wraps, wrinkled at joints and spine, with relatively minor chipping to spine ends. 1-inch closed tears at head of both joints, minor creasing to front panel. Small closed tears and minor splitting to edges of wrappers. Somewhat toned overall, with minor foxing to wrappers and edges of textblock, and occasionally to leaves throughout. Still, in pretty nice shape for this delicate binding. First serialized in 1918 by The Little Review, the publication of Ulysses was halted in 1920 due to obscenity accusations by The New York Society for the Suppression of Vice. It wasn't until 1922, on Joyce's 40th birhday, that the book was published in full form by Sylvia Beach, ex-pat American owner of the famed Shakespeare & Co. bookstore in Paris. This is the first printing with the type entirely re-set, correcting some of the errors of the original text. VG in wrappers.
