Palladio

This concise, incivise study sets Palladio (1508-80) in the context of his age - the great Humanist era of Michelangelo and Raphael, Titan, and Veronese - examines each of the villas, churches, and palaces in turn, and tries to gain insight to the heart of the Palladian accomplishment. Palladio's theoretical writings are significant and illuminating, the author suggests, yet they never seem to do justice to the intense intuitive skills actualized by Palladio as 'visual alchemist' in his realized structures.
