Emerson has her life strategically planned out, exactly how her mom would've wanted her to live it before she died. Emerson would get perfect grades and attend the college of her choice, where she would fall in love with life and someone else. It was the perfect plan. But what Emerson's mom didn't plan or warn her about was the ups and downs that come with adolescence.

As Emerson struggles in her final year of high school to maintain a steady relationship with her friends and family, she also battles with her mental health, fighting to keep her problems concealed. Then she meets Alex. Alex seems to be the only person to understand her and her internal struggles, which is refreshing for Emerson. Alex seems to balance Emerson's life, despite his irrational behavior and his neverending list of red flags. Emerson thinks they're a match. After all, her mother did want her to find love...right?
