  • The SECOND best book I've ever read

See my review for Joseph Mitchell's other book, "My Ears Are Bent." This is nearly as good, not quite as funny, but still has every quality of the other book. With 2 grad degrees (Am. Lit/Psych Nursing), I think I'm qualified to say he was the best American writer ever. Not that I don't love Hemingway, Fitzgerald and Melville--but Mitchell was a reporter who wrote so well, concisely, and with humor, that he leaves them in the dust.
