  • 3.5' x 5.5'. Brief Autograph Letter signed, on a post card addressed by Steinbeck and postmarked Los Gatos, April 17th, 1939, to critic, friend and admirer, Paul Jordan Smith, stating in part, 'It is a kind review and I thank you for it.' He continues, 'I haven't seen the Moore book. However, biography usually succeeds in turning to autobiography. I've noticed that.' Smith had reviewed The Grapes of Wrath, calling it 'one of the most thrilling experiences' he'd had for many years. A short, but sweet, note regarding one of the most important books of the twentieth-century, with a pithy bit of literary criticism from one of America's greatest novelists. Fine.
