Set in the tumultuous summer of 1943 in the heart of pre-civil rights Harlem, the mood is surreal as tensions rise between the white New Yorkers and the black residents of Harlem who are constantly reminded of their second-rate status.Along these restless streets, two very different young men meet, and this chance encounter will forever change both of them. Malcolm Little is a street hustler destined to be a political icon for African Americans everywhere; while Jonah Dove is the minister of one of Harlem's greatest churches. Both battling inner demons as well as outside prejudices, the men's lives play out amid the background of one of the most important social movements in history.
