The Rebels

Of the 18 works to be completed by Hungarian novelist Sandor Marai, "The Rebels" is only the third to be unearthed and retranslated after the tragic loss of all the copies of his books in a fire by the Communist regime of Admiral Horthy. Telling the story of a troubled group of young men on the cusp of life, and death, in World War I, "The Rebels" dives into the psychology of the mutual alienation of a group of boys who will imminently been listed. Soon they are acting out their frustrations and fears, in a series of increasingly serious, strange, and subversive games that will send their lives into tailspin.
