Product Description

Patrick Rothfuss' debut novel combines the intricate stories-within-stories structure of The Arabian Nights with the academic setting of the Harry Potter series, and transforms it all into a brooding, thoroughly audlt meditation on how heroism went wrong. 665p.

Not only is Name of the Wind filled with complex and fascinating characters and constant action and excitement, the writing itself is absolutely amazing. Rothfuss truly has a way with words and a particular skill when it comes to metaphor. But what is most amazing about this book is that it brings the reader back to the very reason why they like reading in the first place: stories. Name of the Wind is filled with stories. It starts in the 3rd person as a story about an innkeeper, then it jumps to 3rd person as the innkeeper begins to tell his story, and throughout the novel there is a constant theme of storytelling, showing how some stories change drastically as they travel from ear to ear and through the ages. This book is pure genius and I recommend it to anyone, fantasy enthusiast or not. If I were to ever teach an Art of Storytelling class, I would use this book.
